Filomena’s Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and regret that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Filomena Spagnuolo (nee Trigiani), on Sunday, October 24, 2021 in her 92nd year. Filomena was called by God to be reunited with her loving and devoted husband Giuseppe, and on his birthday. When God called her home, she was holding hands with her two daughters, sharing the love they had for one another in life, right up to her final breath in death. It brings comfort knowing she was never alone and with that love, she was at peace. Filomena is survived by her daughters Rosemarie Ortiz (Dio) and Linda Fama (Mark) and grandchildren Nicolas, Alexa, Jake, Aidan, and Cierra. She will be dearly missed by her surviving sisters, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended family. Filomena was born on December 10, 1929 in the town of Roseto Valfortore, Italy and emigrated to Hamilton in 1956. She married Giuseppe in 1959. They worked hard to make a life and create a home filled with love and memories for their children and grandchildren, sacrificing much so their kids could have more, and with that love they had everything. Joe and Filomena were never apart. When Joe died in 2018, she turned to her faith and knew one day she would see him again. Until then she doted on her grandchildren and watched them grow with pride. She lived a family-oriented life and spent much of her time in the garden and in the kitchen preparing authentic Italian food. When you gave her requests for dinner, you would be sure to get them all. She was a strong matriarch and in body she will be missed, but in spirit she lives on and we are grateful. Gratitude allows our hearts to tell the best story of our lives and it’s in the little things that mean the most, and for this we count our blessings. Until we see you again mummy. Visitation will be held at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL (43 Barton St. E) on Thursday, October 28 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. with Vigil Prayers at 8:00 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of The Assumption Parish on Friday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In keeping with COVID-19 precautions, all guests are required to practice physical distancing and wear a face covering. Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
