Obituary of Fern Madelene Goodal
GOODAL: Fern Madeline (Sykes) –
A resident of Ridgetown, Fern Goodal passed away at the Mountainview Residence on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the age of 96.
Born in Charing Cross, Fern was the daughter of the late Orval and Elfleda (Bennett) Sykes.
Beloved wife of the late Charles James “Bud” Field (1960) and the late Bernard Goodal (2014).
Loving mother of John Field (Virpi Lipsanen) and the late Doug Field (2000).
Proud grandmother of Matthew Field and Julia Field.
Fern was predeceased by her siblings, Nelson, Melvin, Ileen and Harold.
Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Fern was proud to become a nurse, eventually working as the supervisor of the Operating Room at the Chatham General Hospital from 1950 – 1955. Fern went on to raise her two sons in Ridgetown.
Fern enjoyed bird watching, star gazing, collecting buttons and being active in the community through the church. She was a former member and Past President of St. Michael’s CWL in Ridgetown.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim.
Donations made in memory of Fern to the St. Michael’s Church CWL, Greenpeace Canada or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
