Fergus Fergie Holland 19402021

Fergus “Fergie” Holland
1940-2021
Peacefully passed away at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington
on January, 22, 2021. Fergie won his recent courageous fight with
cancer, but lost a heartbreaking battle after contracting COVID-19.
With his girls by his side fighting with him, the time had come to
help him with his journey home. Most loving father to Anastasia
(Stacey) Holland and Andrea (Andi) Holland who miss him terribly. He
will be sadly missed by his sister, Darlene Grenier as well as Kay
Holland, extended family in the Brantford area, best friend Arnie
Miller (Barb), Julie Canfield and her family in Kelowna, his faithful
feline companion Ollie, and his large circle of friends. Predeceased
by his sister, Frances Holland.
Born in Hamilton, Fergie was raised by the Sisters of St.
Joseph (1944 to 1956) whom he adored and respected for their kind
devotion that positively impacted his life. Also, his loving gratitude
to his extended family near Brantford who always welcomed him with
open hearts.
He enjoyed a 33-year career with Dofasco, and following his
retirement, he moved to Kelowna, BC. While out there he worked for
Crown West Steel Fabricators, Commissionaires primarily stationed at
Kelowna General Hospital, and became BBQ Pitmaster
“extraordinaire” in his spare time. He returned to
Ontario in the late 2000s, and soon after became a member of the
Burlington Lions Club. He co-managed the Burlington Centre
Farmers Market for many years, which he was highly passionate about
and supporting local farmers and businesses.
Fergie was devoted to civic and community engagement. He was
instrumental in helping to build a permanent location for the
Burlington Gymnastics Club on Maple Avenue with the help of former
Burlington Mayor, Roly Bird, and president of the Burlington Rhythmic
Gymnastics Club for several years. He helped to grow the
club’s success, and organize many friendly competitions and
fund raisers. Fergie also helped to organize fishing trips,
golf tournaments, local hockey and baseball teams. For many
years he was a member of the Burlington Oldtimers Hockey League and
played for the Burlington Old Devils. He enjoyed putting
together local charity events and dinners, such as “Have a Heart
Dinner” to raise money for the Come & “C”
organization in Kelowna, BC for homeless and low-income
families. He was rooted in kindness and will always will be
remembered for wanting to help others and contributing to his
community.
As an animal lover, Fergie was a proud animal shelter
adopter, he also loved nature, birds, wilderness, mountains, fishing
as well as gardening of all kinds.
Above all else, Fergie will be fondly remembered as a
generous spirit and a wonderfully supportive dad/mentor who made you
feel like you could do anything. His focus in life was making sure
everyone enjoyed themselves. In memory of Fergie “please have a
fun day!”
Cremation has taken place and a private family Memorial
Service will be held with internment taking place at Holy Sepulchre
Cemetery in Burlington. A public Celebration of life will be
held and announced once it is safe to do so.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memorial of
Fergie to the following local organizations that were close to his
heart and would be most appreciated by the family; The Congregation of
the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada (www.csjcanada.org),
or the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides (www.dogguides.com).
