Evert Eddie Keus Saturday June 5th 2021

Passed away peacefully at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Grimsby with his family at his side, on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the age of 87. Beloved husband of Leuntje “Leni” Keus (nee Verhey). Loving father of Diane Bekhazi (Michel), Helen McCartney (David), Edward Keus, Annette Kells (Johny) and the late Ronald Keus (Ana). Cherished and proud Opa of Elie, Joelle, Daniel, Andy, Vicky, Emilee, Jojo, Eric, Alex, Jacob, Nico, and Daniel. He will also be fondly remembered by his dear sisters as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends in Canada, The Netherlands and USA.
Eddie was born in Scheveningen, NL, the son of Evert Keus and Dirkje de Best and was one of ten children. He immigrated to Canada in 1954, married Leni and eventually settled in Hamilton to secure work at Stelco and raise their family. Eddie was not afraid of hard work, even after a long day working in the steel mill, he would often take extra shifts or part-time work to support his family.
His off days were spent with his family, he loved to plan day trips to the beach or a local attraction, a camping or site seeing vacation or a road trip to visit relatives. When he wasn’t working or spending time with his family, he was always available to help a friend with a renovation project or anything that need to be fixed.
He was an active member of the Westdale Reformed Church where he served as a deacon for many years and sang in the choir.
Following his retirement from Stelco after 33 years, Eddie kept busy working part-time, traveling and spending time with Leni exploring the Niagara area, and riding their bikes on local trails and along Confederation Beach.
Eddie had numerous hobbies, but his real passion was photography. You would rarely see him without his camera and was always taking pictures of his family, nature, or some waterfall. He spent countless hours learning new lighting techniques, mastering different poses, and developing in his dark room. Eventually this hobby became his second career, and he began taking wedding and portrait photos for family and friends as a profession.
Above all, he loved spending time with his family and was his grandchildren’s greatest fan, attending their many sporting events and cheering them on.
He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, love for his family, passion for soccer and the ‘Oranje’ Netherlands National Football Team…Hup Holland Hup!
Due to the current Covid restrictions, a private family interment will take place at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Hamilton. Once gathering restrictions have been lifted, a Celebration of Eddie’s Life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
