Everett Cameron Maltby ‘Cam’ 2021

Peacefully, in his 89 year, Everett Cameron “Cam” Maltby. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary (Sacken), his children Craig (Christine), Reid (Christine), Jody, and Neil (Jen) and by his grandchildren Martin, Clara, Ella, Michael, Annie, Katie and Beth. Predeceased by his parents, Delmer and Leila, and by his brother Clare and wife Eleanor and his brother Murray. Survived by his sister-in-law Cathy and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Cam was the Director of Business at Park Street Collegiate for 20 years, and before that taught at ODCVI for 5 years. An accomplished athlete, he played many sports but his first love was hockey. While playing with the Clinton Colts, he was scouted for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He chose to pursue a higher education at the University of Western Ontario, where he continued his amateur hockey career on the Western Mustangs. Cam was also a member of the Orillia Curling Club until well into his 70’s, when he became known as one of the best stick curlers in the city. An excellent musician, Cam played many instruments including the trombone, the banjo and the gut-bucket. He was an avid barbershopper and twice sang lead as a member of the School Board for the Park Street Players productions of “The Music Man”. He also performed in many plays with Mariposa Arts Theatre. Some of his more memorable roles included the Rabbi in “Fiddler on the Roof”, the Professor in “South Pacific”, Merlin in “Camelot”, and Jeff Thorpe in “Sunshine Town”. But his favourite role – and the one we appreciated the most – was as loving husband, father and grandfather.
We are grateful to the staff in Home Area 1 at the Leacock Long-Term Care Facility for their kindness and care for Cam. Thanks also to Carson Funeral Home for helping us to have a green burial, honouring Cam’s commitment to caring for the earth. The burial has occurred privately.
Due to current pandemic restrictions, a celebration of Cam’s life will occur at a later date. If you would like to honour Cam, donations to St. Paul’s United Church or the Mission & Service Fund of the United Church of Canada would be gratefully appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Home, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia (705) 326-3595.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Everett Cameron Maltby ‘Cam’ 2021..
