Evelyn Theresa O’Brien Dugay 1930 2021 (age 90)

Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Evelyn Theresa (O’Brien) Dugay on January 31, 2021 at Bobby’s Hospice, with her family by her side. She was born in Millstream, NB on November 19, 1930 to the late Charles and Mary (Doyle) O’Brien and was the loving wife of 49 years to William F. Dugay.
Evelyn was strongly devoted to her Catholic faith. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and attended mass every week until she was no longer able to drive herself in. Even though she could no longer go to church, she still made sure to say her prayers and watch mass daily. Evelyn and Bill started their married lives in Saint John in 1951 and then moved to Massachusetts for a few years, before moving to Hampton and then in 1969 establishing their family home in Darling’s Island. Evelyn loved nothing more than her family. She devoted her entire life to raising and caring for her husband and family and tending to her home. She was a private person and tended to be on the quieter side. She was friendly, but she preferred to socialize at home. She was never happier than when family was around her, whether for Sunday dinners or special occasions. Her and Bill were childhood sweethearts and always together until he passed away in 2000. Evelyn was heartbroken, but being such a resilient woman, she still maintained her home on her own, drove herself around for 11 more years before she gave up her license, and was able to stay in her home until 10 days before her passing. She was a very strong and kind woman who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Mary), Edward (Dawn) and Billy (Kelly) Dugay; daughters, Pamela (Frank) and Kathie (Lew) Remington; 10 grandchildren, Lisa, Angie, Michael, Katelyn, Kelly, Paul, Keltie, Kendall, Breanne and Shannyn; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Ann McCutcheon, Barbara (Marvin) Brown, Bonnie (Gerald) Wood and Chrissy (Norman) Hazelwood and sister-in-law, Barbara O’Brien of Naples, Me, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Edward, Joseph, David and Donnie O’Brien and sister, Mary “Min” Folkins.
Evelyn’s family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Extra Mural caregivers who came in over the last few years to assist her, the staff of Darlene’s Home Care, especially Shelley and Debbie who provided such care to her over the last year, and to the staff of Bobby’s Hospice for the care and compassion that they showed to Evelyn for the last 10 days of her life. Your kindness is so appreciated and will never be forgotten.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). Due to these uncertain times and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a private family service will be held with burial to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in Evelyn’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, the NB Lung Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.
