Gene Korpan, retired principal, bringer of laughter, kindness and always a smile, passed away December 15 at the age of 81 after a battle with cancer.
Gene is survived by his daughter, Corrine (Mike); son, Kirby; sister, Arlene (Rudy); granddaughter Marlee (Travis); niece Andrea and nephew Kevin.
He is predeceased by his wife Clara.
Eugene (Gene) Walter Korpan was born in 1940 in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. He grew up in Laniwci Aberdeen and later moved to Saskatoon where he met his wife, Clara. They were married on May 5, 1962, and soon after welcomed their daughter Corrine, then son Kirby.
He loved to learn and throughout his life obtained many professional designations including his Masters in education. He spent the majority of his career teaching children and was loved by both the kids he taught and the staff he worked with. Gene liked to keep busy, and after retirement, he moved on to a second career as a Casino advisor.
He was devoted to his faith and was an active member of his church St.Dominc’s Savio and was also heavily involved in the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs and Saskatchewan Roughriders fan and when games were on, everyone knew where he would be.
Gene was a kind and loving man and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by his friends, family, and the many communities he was a part of.
A Memorial Service will be held at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 114 Street NW, Edmonton on Thursday, December 23 at 2:00 pm. Please note that photo ID and QR code or proof of a negative test within 72 of the service is required to enter the funeral home. A livestream will also be available on Connelly-McKinley’s website.
