Ethel Ruth Short December 12 1930 June 2 2020

Ethel Ruth Short (nee Heywood), born December 12, 1930 passed away June 2, 2020. She is predeceased by her parents Leo and Mary Heywood, her son Ken Short, her grandchildren Sarah and James Short, and her son-in-law Dennis Mercer. She is survived by siblings Jim Heywood, Hazel Tweed, and Joyce Wallace, and by her three children Don Short (Pam), Walter Short (Janice), and Linda Mercer. She leaves 15 beloved grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and their spouses.
Born and raised in High River of pioneering families, Ethel was an active member of the community and her church. Here she raised her family, worked as an accountant for many years, and became an accomplished artist upon retirement. Following the High River flooding in 2013, Ethel relocated to seniors’ lodgings in Okotoks. Ethel’s greatest joy was her family; she never missed their numerous events of celebration and remains an enduring loving influence in each of their lives. Her greatest legacy, however, is her far reaching kindness, extended to all she met and knew. She faced life with integrity, a gentle heart, and always, always a warm smile.
A Graveside Interment Service will be held at the Highwood Cemetery on Friday, October 1st at 1:00 p.m. guests are welcome to attend if desired.
A Celebration of Ethel’s Life will be held at the Highwood Golf & Country Club on Friday, October 1st at 2:00 p.m.
If desired, memorial donations may be made in Ethel’s memory to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation.
