Eric Eckel of Cudworth, Saskatchewan passed away unexpectedly at his home at the age of 60 on November 18, 2021.
Eric is survived by his wife June, his daughter Kelsey (Derick Mason) Eckel, his son John (Kyla Martin) Eckel, his siblings: Alan (Janet) Eckel, Diana (Bob) Gristwood, Terry (Pat) Eckel, Debbie (Daryl) Hemsley and Kevin (Kathee Stevens) Eckel; as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and all of June’s family in Scotland. Eric was predeceased by his parents Edward Eckel & Leila Grace (Babcock Eckel) Lingel and step father Delmar Lingel.
Eric was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan on October 6, 1961. He attended school in North Battleford, and later on Cudworth. Before attending school at Kelsey Institute for Automotive Mechanics, Eric worked at Bantles Services. He worked several years in Calgary, Alberta for Format Resources and Kindersley Transport as a truck driver. Eric later returned to Cudworth where he worked for Murry Lopinski Can-Am Drilling, Double H Drilling, Borstmayer Drilling, Cargill LTD and Yankee Transport with his brother Terry. He finished off his working career at Great Plains Drilling as a Water Hauler and working in the shop as a mechanic alongside his son John and Lyle Kleiter.
No matter what, if you stopped by to say “hi”, Eric always made sure that you had something to eat. He loved to cook and entertain with a large meal, a drink and a good story about years passed over a game of cards. Camping with his family was often a highlight of the summer. He loved going fishing with friends and family whenever he got a chance.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Cudworth Community Hall at 2pm on November 26, 2021. Interment of the Urn will be at the Leofeld Cemetery, followed by a luncheon and salute to Eric at the Community Hall. Donations can be made to Cudworth Hoodoo Fire Rescue, and Cudworth First Responders.
