Death Notice
Eric Arthur Belliveau and Maryel Leonie Belliveau nee Beliveau
Eric Belliveau passed away peacefully after a wash and a shave at St Joseph’s Hospice in London, on Saturday February 7th after a mercifully brief battle with cancer. Eric was surrounded by family and dedicated hospice staff and died with the bright winter sun on his face.
Eric follows his beloved wife of 64 years, Maryel, who passed on December 29, 2019. Eric and Maryel both are remembered fondly by their children, Marc (Judy), his daughter Michelle (Gary), and youngest daughter Carmen, and grandsons Matthew, Sumner, Seth and Aiden. Maryel was also survived by her brother Guy (Sharon).
Eric and Maryel were both air force veterans who met in France over a mixed up restaurant reservation, their surnames being Belliveau and Beliveau. Eric retired from the Air Force as a Master Warrant Officer in 1975 and went to work at UWO from 1975 until he retired in 1989. They retired to a lakeside house outside Goderich for 29 years, spending many happy winters walking the beach and chatting with friends in Panama City Florida. They moved back to London in 2008 to be closer to family.
Eric was an avid vintage car enthusiast, and was a regular in vintage car meets in his beloved 1948 DeSoto. Eric and Maryel loved travelling to events around Southwestern Ontario, where they would meet friends and enjoy the outdoors.
Maryel loved life, and travel, hitchhiking in France with Michelle, camping in the van with Carmen and exploring Vancouver Island with Marc.
Eric and Maryel leave a legacy of love and friendship to their family and many friends. They will both be sorely missed and will be reunited in heaven.
A small family funeral will happen at the cemetery on Saturday February 13. A celebration of life will happen sometime this summer, COVID permitting.
Heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at St Joseph’s Hospice, the team at LHINN who cared for Eric during his final days and to the wonderful staff at PeopleCare Oak Crossing, who made Maryel’s last days comfortable and peaceful.
Memorial donations to St Joseph’s Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Eric and Maryel Belliveau 2021..
