Obituary of Emma Loraas
LORAAS. Emma
1915 – 2021
Emma Loraas passed away peacefully on Saturday January 9, 2021 on her 106th birthday, at Central Haven Care Home in Saskatoon.
Emma was born on January 9, 1915, in Rosthern SK, to immigrant parents George and Katherine Kinzel. She was the fourth child of fourteen children.
Left to mourn Emma’s loss are her children, Bruce (Marlene); Carman (Carolyn); and Terry (Michelle). She will also be missed by her grandchildren Nancy, Jane, Darren, Dean, David, Robin, Chelsea, Aaron, Jess, Drew, Brittany, as well as many great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
Emma was pre deceased by her husband, George in 1999, her son Roy in 2007 and her son John in 2017.
She is survived by three siblings, Esther Schweigert (Kelowna); George Kinzel (Saskatoon); and Clara Hall (Saskatoon).
Emma grew up with a strong work ethic that shaped her life and which she passed on to her five sons and her grandchildren. Home and family defined her life. She excelled in creating a beautiful home and shared this with family and friends as her true passions were cooking and hosting.
Emma loved the cabin she and George shared in their later years at Brightsand Lake, as well as camping before that. Emma and George shared a special relationship with George’s two sisters, Hazel and Gertie, and their spouses. They ate many Sunday dinners together; camped and played cards, as well as travelled together.
Emma loved to be silly and have fun. She and some friends loved to go out for Halloween, dressed in costumes with big rubber masks.
She was a curious woman. She was always interested in the lives of family and friends, and loved to talk on the phone to “keep up” with the goings on. She also loved to travel, whether to visit family or take precious trips to the Canary Islands or Hawaii.
Emma was a sports enthusiast, and watched all sports on television in her later years, especially curling. Curling was a passion and she was excellent at it when she played in her earlier years.
Emma’s family would like to thank all those that were so gracious and helpful in her final years, especially the staff at; Stonebridge Crossing Retirement Community, St. Paul’s Hospital Palliative Care and Central Haven Special Care Home.
A graveside interment service will be held at a later date. Cremation will take place as per Emma’s wishes.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Emma
