Passed peacefully away at home on December 28 following a very brief illness, Eloise Martin of Clarenville, NL. Eloise was predeceased by her husband George of 62 years, as well as her parents Annie and Martin Feltham of Broad Cove, Conception Bay, and her sisters and their husbands Myrtle King (Bill) and Bessie Thistle (George).
Leaving to cherish her life and memory are her son Paul (Robin), daughter Denise, adored grandchildren Andrew (Emilie), Matt (Kathryn), Erin (JR), Gillian, many nieces and nephews, as well as a treasured circle of extended family and friends, including life-long special friend Sadie Thistle.
Eloise was born and raised in Broad Cove, Conception Bay and often related stories of life and times in those early days, recalling all names and events with a memory sharper than any tack. Eloise dearly loved music and wherever she and George were living, she was involved with choirs and singing. After settling in Clarenville, Eloise directed the church Junior Choir for many years and became a member of the Senior Choir where she remained for decades, along with involvement in community choirs. Eloise’s church life was very important to her and her involvement with the UCW was one of the highlights. Eloise was active with much volunteer/community work and family life, but could always find time for a hand of cards – 120s being her favourite.
In later years Eloise delighted in the annual summer homecoming of family. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and when everyone would gather together, life was grand. Extended family and friends also often came to visit, chatting and laughing over tea and some of Eloise’s famous baked goodies outside on the back deck or around the kitchen table. Eloise blessed us all with her long life and her kind nurturing spirit.
In view of the current public health situation, a celebration of Eloise’s life will take place in Summer 2022, with details to be announced at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
For those who wish, donations in Eloise’s memory may be made to the Shoal Harbour United Church Cemetery Fund, Shoal Harbour United Church, 6 Huntley Dr, Clarenville, NL A5A 4K1.
