Death notice for the town of: Ingleside, Province: Ontario
Dear Laura and Sarah,
It was with sadness that I learned of Ellis’s passing. He was a kind and gentle man who was always calm and collected.
One of my fondest memories of Ellis was of his time at CCVS. The English dept at the time was full of rambunctious sorts and someone came up with the practical joke that we should all dress in blue on Thursdays – but not tell Ellis. When Thursday would roll around and Ellis showed up in anything but blue, someone would say, “Well … Ellis” and leave it at that. This went on for weeks until one Thursday there was a department meeting. Ellis looked at all of us and exclaimed, “I just noticed that you are all dressed in blue!” … and he was met with a resounding chorus of “WELL ….. ELLIS!!” To his credit, he laughed heartily …. although I am not sure that he ever trusted us completely again! as I indicated, we were rather rambunctious sorts!
I was able to attend the memorial service but unfortunately had to leave early – It was a lovely service and Ellis, I am sure, was pleased.
With deepest sympathy, Katie Burke
