Obituary of Elizabeth Lomas
Elizabeth Lomas (Lil), nee Barkley
After a life well-lived, Lil, born November 4, 1924 in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2021 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital surrounded by members of her family. Pre-deceased by husbands Harry Lomas (1996) and Trevor Dollery (1945), Lil was the matriarch of a large and close-knit family. She will be missed by her son Bob and his wife Susan Lomas, her daughter Pam and her husband Don Burnside, her daughter the Reverend Jane and her husband Bob McCaig and her grandchildren Julie and Sean Clark, Rob and Mandy Lomas, Andrew Lomas, Jennifer and Jeff Tetzlaff, Kristin McCaig and Mike Gibson, as well as her great grandchildren Jacen, Robyn, Maggie, William, Eric, Aiden, Liam, Isla, Ashton, and Avery.
Lil is lovingly remembered by her sister Roberta Oliver, her niece Susan Ford, her nephew Peter Oliver, her nephew Bud and Marlene White, her nephew Jack White, and her niece Marlen Gilbert.
A hard-working public servant in the Tax Centre at the Canada Revenue Agency, Lil was also dedicated to community service. She was recognized by the City of Ottawa for her dedication to volunteerism. She was an integral part of St. Michael and all Angels Anglican Church in Ottawa especially as a member of the Ways and Means, and as a member of the choir. Her special friends in the ladies bridge club brought great joy and laughter to her life.
Lil loved her garden, knitting, reading and passed many an afternoon or evening playing bridge with family and friends. Rarely found with idle hands, she lived her life fully, honestly, and simply. Her family will forever remember her unapologetic truths balanced by her unfailing love.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Stittsville Food Bank or Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund would be appreciated.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church, 1619 Main St., Stittsville, on Friday August 27, 2021. Visitation at 10 a.m. followed by service at 11 a.m.
