Vibrant and strong like a Canadian maple
Unfaltering like a knitting needle as it casts and pearls
Full of life like an English garden in spring
A mother as warm and caring as Mother Earth
Lovely like the coastal villages of Scotland
Spritely like a blue jay at first summer’s shower
Comforting like freshly baked shortbread at Christmas time
Remarkable as the life she led and that she leaves to us to continue
On Christmas eve morning 2021, Elizabeth Helen Lawton (nee Galbraith), daughter of John and Maude Galbraith of Scotland, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years. Elizabeth lived a wonderful life—she was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, aunt and grandmother, as well as a dedicated nature-lover and expert baker. Many will remember her sensational garden in which she took great pride in cultivating, her ability to identify every type of bird and flower, and her scrumptious butter tarts. Elizabeth was also a world traveler, visiting her family in all parts of Canada and the United States, as well as across the globe. Up until the last days of her life, Elizabeth enjoyed golfing with her friends and walking along the shore of Lake Huron.
She will be reunited with her husband of 51 years, Bob (Milton) Lawton and her sisters Janet Johnstone (nee Galbraith) and Sheila Jones (nee Galbraith). She will be missed by her children and children in-law Jennifer Lawton-Pal, Robert John Lawton, Steven Pal, and Trish Lawton, her granddaughter Felicity Pal, and her brother Ian Galbraith, as well as her extended family and many friends.
A celebration of life will be held at later date. Donations on behalf of Elizabeth Lawton can be made to IODE, Canadian Wildlife Fund, and Habitat for Humanity (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Elizabeth Helen Lawton nee Galbraith February 4th 1933 December 24th 2021..
