Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Elizabeth (Betty) Wrightson on July 25, 2021.
Betty was born in Orange, California to Clarence and Ethel Stankie (nee Hobbs) on August 3, 1927. The family returned to Canada and took up farming near Brock, Saskatchewan in the early 1930’s. Betty was the oldest of 6 children. At 18, she left home and moved to Saskatoon where she went to secretarial school. Betty worked for several years at Ashdowns in the steno pool. While in Saskatoon she charmed, Allan Wrightson with her sweet demeanor and stunning good looks. After a whirlwind romance they married 6 months later on August 7, 1954. They celebrated 62 years of marriage together before his passing in 2017.
Betty and Al enjoyed a happy, fulfilled marriage. They moved to Calgary in 1968 and continued to live in the same home for the duration of their lives. They enjoyed camping with their children, and later on their own in their VW Westfalia. Betty was happiest when she was with family. Taking every opportunity for family dinners, picnics and trips to the local pub.
Betty was an impeccable homemaker. She loved to garden and sew; but her passion was baking. Her homemade bread and buns were a staple in the home for over 40 years. Her cookies, pies and birthday cakes were made with love for family and friends.
Betty is survived by her two children and grandchildren, Mark (John and Michael) and Jill (Aimee). She is also survived by her sister Sophia. Betty is predeceased by her husband, parents, brother John, and sisters, Clarice, Jewel and Eulilla.
Funeral Services will be held later, please email ewrightson27@gmail.com for further information.
Donations may be made to the Chinook Hospice or one of Betty’s favourite charities: the Calgary Public Library, or The Wildlife Federation.
