It is with much sadness that the family of Elizabeth “Betty” McCoy (nee Rotzinger) announces her peaceful passing on November 16, 2021, at the age of 96.
She is survived by her five children: Danny, Mickey (Belinda), Jerry (Connie), Dianne and David (Whitney); eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Betty was born and raised in Carmel, Saskatchewan. The oldest of four children, she moved to Edmonton in her late teens, where she would live the rest of her life. It was there where she met her late husband of 69 years, Edward “Dinty” McCoy, at a Catholic youth group dance. In her youth, Betty liked sports and played semi-professional women’s softball together with her kid sister, Toni. Once married, she and her husband enjoyed travelling, the company of family and friends, and spending time at their cottage at Pigeon Lake.
Betty was a lifelong woman of faith and service. She was a member of the CWL and a proud supporter of the work that they do. After raising her five children, Betty went back to school and became a social worker. After retirement, she would continue to actively help those in need, principally through an organization she founded, the Society Against Mind Abuse.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 9830 148 St., Edmonton, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday November 30, 2021. There will be a private interment at a later date.
The family would like to thank Betty’s physician, Dr. Danielle Michaels, and her many caregivers for their attentive and sensitive care in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making an online donation to the Marian Centre for the Homeless.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Elizabeth “Betty McCoy 2021..
