Obituary
Elaine Dove
Sydney Mines
Our Mom was a person who showed great courage and perseverance, and had the will to overcome any struggle. She faced many challenges during her life, and faced them all head on with strength and dignity. Her final battle with cancer was to be her last, and it is with great sadness we have to announce her passing on Friday, December 10, 2021.
Born on November 6, 1937, to Henry and Madeline (Mulley) Maxwell, “Ma” was one of six girls in the family. She worked at the former Harbour View Hospital and then at Memorial High School until her retirement. She worked hard, both inside and outside the home, taking care of her family.
“Ma” was a tiny woman with a big heart who was right there when anyone needed her. The teapot was always on for anyone who came to visit. She was quick to laugh with her dry sense of humour, and always ready for a game of Rumoli at the kitchen table or horseshoes and Bocce ball at Middle River. Her cheers and curses could be heard outside whenever she watched a curling match. She was an avid reader and never seemed to have enough books to read.
Left behind to mourn her loss are her sons; Wayne, Calgary, AB, Brian (Nancy), Middle River, Michael, Sydney Mines, and Adrian, at home, her daughter Michelle (Woody) Oakfield, Maine, her only grandchild, Michael, Calgary, AB, her sisters Carolyn, Sydney, and Jeannie, Sydney Mines, and her brother-in-law Martin Plumstead, NB, as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Gerald, her son Derrick, her sisters Sally, Joyce and Susan, brothers-in-law Billy, Adrian and Don, and sisters-in-law Dellie and Margie.
Mom didn’t want any fuss over her passing, so she requested no visitation or service. Cremation will take place under the direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
We don’t know how we will ever go on without you Mom, but we will quote one of your favorite sayings and try to “Play it by ear and see what happens.”
