Elaine’s Obituary
Elaine Tooke was a teacher to hundreds, a mentor to many, and a friend to all! While she passed away peacefully in her home on August 26th, 2021, at the age of 92, her love of life did not come to an end with her passing. She will be fondly remembered as a fun-loving woman with a delightful wit, entertaining stories, and a passion for political debate. (We came to learn that it was best to not let her get started.)
Elaine’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by her daughters Shelley Dube’ and Nancy Ruston (Aaron), four grandchildren, David and Jenna Dube’ (Elias), Tallon Ruston (Briane) and Kaylee Lowe (Darren), her sister June Mitchell, a host of amazing nieces and nephews, and many treasured friends.
Elaine’s childhood years were spent in Regina with her parents Marjorie and Ed Cooper and sister June. She met her husband, Jim Tooke, at Teacher’s College and they were married in 1951. They were devoted parents to three children. Sadly, their son Douglas passed away in 1970 and Jim died in 1983 at the age of 56.
After retiring from a fulfilling teaching career, Elaine made several moves before settling in Kelowna, B.C. There she became a committed member and elder at St. David’s Presbyterian Church. Elaine was an active community member, serving on such boards as Habitat for Humanity. She returned to her prairie roots in 2007, spending her latter years in Moose Jaw, where she enjoyed a host of activities with amazing church and retirement community friends. Elaine spent many a day with her bridge partners, Blue Jays/Rider game partiers, the pancake Sundays gals and the Golden Girls.
The family wishes to thank the First Free Methodist Church at 375 Hochelaga St. W., for hosting a celebration of Elaine’s life. She will be honored by friends and family with a come and go in the lower level of the church on Sunday, Sept. 12th , 2021, from 1:00 to 2:30. In lieu of flowers, a tribute donation can be made to the Moose Jaw Humane Society on her behalf.
In living memory of Elaine, a memorial planting will be made by Jones-Parkview Funeral Services.
