EDWIN “MORGAN” BILGER
MARCH 13, 1925 – JULY 20, 2021
On Tuesday, July 20, 2021, after a long and full life, Morgan passed away peacefully at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Marie (Leonard) in 2014.
Morgan will be missed by his children, Wynn Bilger, Mollyann (Bill) Stephenson and Lori (Tom) Plant. Much loved by his grandchildren, Karen Bilger, Michael (Jamie) Bilger, Sarah (Joel) Gardiner, Bryce (Heather) Stephenson, Graham (Jen) Plant and Meredith Plant (Wynne). Leaving behind his great-grandchildren, Aidan & Avery Bilger, Sophia, Sylvia & Henry Gardiner and Liam & Olivia Stephenson.
Morgan was born in Lyndoch to Theodore and Violet Bilger. He was predeceased by his brothers, Alec (Marie) and Larry Bilger. Also predeceased by Marie’s parents, Morley and Clara Leonard, her brothers Jack (Gladys) and Ross (Louise), as well as friend Gloria Hughes. Fondly remembered by sister-in-law Joanne and several nieces and nephews. Thank you Rebecca & Bruce for all the meals and golf games.
Morgan joined the Navy in high school (anything was better than that) and spent 2 years in the North Atlantic. He threw up every day, thus earning the nickname, “Bucket Bilger.” After the war he met and married Marie (1947). Together they grew tobacco, owned a hardware store, and then worked for Anglo-Canada eventually becoming the CEO.
Morgan loved his grandkids and taught every one of them to drive. Nothing like seeing your 15 year old behind the wheel going down Broadway with Morgan in the passenger seat.
Morgan and Marie enjoyed their cottage at Long Point and sailing on the bay. They then took up golf and spent their winters in Florida. He was a high energy, full throttle character. He was very sociable and loved talking and exchanging stories with all age groups. He had great neighbours and enjoyed his walks on the Veteran’s Walkway.
Thank you to Dr.Abdalla, Dr. Cluett and the staff of Tillsonburg Retirement Home for their kindness. Dad raised funds for the Alzheimers Society for years (on Marie’s behalf). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimers Society, St. John’s Anglican Church or the charity of your choice may be made by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221).
At dad’s request, a private graveside service will be held at a later date.
Family and friends are encouraged to share the many wonderful memories and stories they have of their time with Morgan at www.ostrandersfuneralhome.com
