Edward Swietek 1954 2021

Obituary for
Edward Swietek
Swietek, Edward
1954-2021
It is with profound sadness the family announces the unexpected passing of Edward Swietek on Tuesday December 21, 2021.
Ed was the loving father of Courtney Berlinghoff (Gord) of Schumacher and Benjamin Swietek (Alanah) of North Bay. He was also the proud grampa of Emmitt and Quinn Berlinghoff. Also left behind to mourn are his siblings Ben (Nancy) of Hamilton, Wally of Burlington, Donna (Mario) John and Mark (Carmen)also of Hamilton. He was predeceased by his parents Bernard Swietek and Wanda Golinowski. Ed will be missed by the Campbell family and numerous nephews and nieces.
He arrived in Timmins from Hamilton in May of 1978 in the middle of a Spring snowstorm to embark on what would be a highly successful career in newspaper and radio advertising. He was employed by the Timmins Porcupine News, Timmins Daily Press, Timmins Times and Rogers Radio.
He annually celebrated his arrival to Timmins and always reminded those who knew him that when he saw the snow that day, he went to get a ticket to return to Hamilton but was two dollars short of a full fare. Lucky for us.
Ed was an avid sports fan growing up in Hamilton supporting his beloved Tiger Cats despite being constantly surround by Toronto fans. He also was a diehard fan of the Toronto Maples Leafs, Toronto Blues Jays and Dallas Cowboys. He will be remembered for his extensive knowledge of all sports and his love of music and movies.
He was a proud member of the Windsor Hotel Royals men’s fastball team and was renowned for snagging the tough fly balls in left field despite having to battle that infamous gopher.
Anyone who met Ed learned about his love of his Polish heritage. He was fluent in the polish language.
You would be hard pressed to find anyone to say anything negative about Ed he was simply just a nice guy. He genuinely accepted people for who they were and maintained he never met a person he didn’t like.
Oskee Wee Wee, Ed. Go Cats go!
In light of the current pandemic and Covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to Timmins and District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
