Edward “Ned”‘s Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Edward “Ned” O’Gorman, announce his passing on November 4th, 2021 at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre at the age of 74 years, surrounded by his loving family.
Ned grew up in the small town of Lourdes, where he met his life partner, Brenda. Together with their family, they shared 53 beautiful years and were a true example of love and devotion. Ned was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and always made sure his family knew just how much we were loved. He was a hard worker and always wanted to provide for his family, making sure we never did without.
Throughout life’s travels, Ned made numerous friends. Whether it be from playing baseball with the Lourdes Pioneers, working and retiring from the Mill, to attending many dances where he and Mom would share their love of waltzing. He loved to make you laugh and would always offer a good joke. We would often say that there wasn’t a soul Dad didn’t know, and not a thing he wouldn’t do for somebody. He found a friend wherever he went and had no trouble carrying on a conversation, as he certainly loved to talk.
Ned often spoke about “the glory days”, where he would play baseball with the Pioneers and brag about being such a good player that the girls at the Berry Head gas bar would let him have a coke and a bag of chips for free. He loved telling that story, and he told it with pride.
We hope you are waltzing now, Dad…. and we thank you for leaving us with many beautiful memories that we will cherish for years to come.
He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: his wife Brenda; son Dean (Renee) O’Gorman; daughters: Jennifer (Christopher) Retieffe and Andrea (Josh) Froude; and one special granddaughter who was like his own daughter Meghan (Mitchell) Gallant; grandchildren: Conor, Eamonn, Ethan, Maeve, Cohen, Kenzie, Nadege, Kendyl, Adrian and Lawson.
He is also survived by: brothers: Jim, Bill, Ted, Tom and Junior; and sisters: Mary and Gertrude; as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by: parents Augustus and Elizabeth O’Gorman; and sister Margaret.
Following his wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on Friday, November 5th from 7:00-9:00 PM. From where the funeral Mass will also be held on Saturday, November 6th at 10:00 AM.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre for their kindness and care of our father during the final stages of his illness. It is never easy to accept that our loved ones can no longer be at home with us, but the nurses at BSGLTCC surely made this transition easier for our family, especially our mother, who had a very difficult time over the last few years but remained dedicated and devoted to caring for our father until the very end. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
Ned is free at last from the horrible disease, dementia, which ravaged both his mind and his body; and took him away from us far too soon.
