It is with heartfelt sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Edward (Ted) Bruce Parr at his Orillia home on December 29th, 2020. Beloved husband of the late Jean (Adam), loving father of Tracie (Peter) May, Ross (Robin) Parr and Shawn (Karen) Parr. Poppa to Cody (Madi), Mathew (Tèa), and Meghan (Cameron). Great Poppa to baby Benjamin. Predeceased by his siblings, Ronald (Kay and Shirley) Parr, Joyce (Ron) McEachern, Gloria (Jerry) Daly, Lois Russell, Marilyn (Bill) Wright, Ken and Murray Parr. Brother-in-law of Wes Adam (predeceased) and wife Joyce, Jim (Pat) Adam, and Bruce Adam (predeceased). Ted will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, close family and friends especially by his buddy Ruger.
Ted was born in Orillia Ontario on October 23rd, 1937, beloved son of Wallace and Bessie. He married the love of his life Jean on August 5th, 1960. He was a skilled Tool and Die Maker from the age of 16, and was often sought out by many companies for special projects.
Ted and Jean were avid campers, members of the Ontario Campers Association (Orillia chapter), and spent most weekends and holidays traveling with their children across Canada. In 1974, they arrived at Klondike Park and Country Club where they settled permanently. Ted was a very active participant in most camp activities becoming head pancake flipper for the annual breakfast, fire starter and keeper for Pig roasts, corn roasts, and numerous BBQ events. Also known for his “ALL-IN” Sunday breakfasts enjoyed by many. The camping season never shut down for Ted enjoying winters snowmobiling at the Park with family and great friends.
Ted’s somewhat gruff exterior affectionately earned him the nickname from his children “Grumpy Ted”, however we all knew he was a soft-touch. He enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren, and was delighted to meet his great grandson and name-sake, Benjamin Edward. The friends that knew him the best gave him another nickname, “Teddy Bear” as they knew he had a soft heart.
The last few years had been physically hard on Ted. He had a myriad of health issues, some seemingly insurmountable, but he had always pulled through. He was known as the Energizer Bunny for his ability to bounce back from even the most serious ailments. Eventually, his constant health battles took their toll on him. The family will be forever grateful to all those who supported and aided Ted through his illnesses, and health struggles.
As per COVID restrictions, there will be a private family service held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
