Johnston, Edna (Nee Stahle):
Passed away peacefully on April 28, 2021 at Sunnyside Home, Franklin Street, Kitchener at the age of 103. Loving mother to Larry Jonas of Flatbush, Alberta, and stepson Ron Johnston (Doris) of Kitchener, Ontario, her predeceased daughter Gail Jonas and stepsons Harold Johnston (Gladys) and George Ventry (Helen). She was also predeceased by her first husband Harry Jonas, second husband Robert Johnston, sisters Pearl McCarley (Stuart), Esther Stahle, Arlene Sell (AI), Helen Stahle, Bernice DeMeuleneare (Milt) and her Stahle brothers Lloyd (Grace), Wilfred (Ada), Richard (Clem) and Irvin (Ortha). Her parents were George Stahle and Caroline Ruppel.
Edna was a life-long charter member of Olivet United Church until its closing and was a current member of Calvary Memorial United Church. Worship, Prayer and service to family, friends and community defined her life. Participation with the First United Church’s “Super-Sixties” Friday morning worship, the Rockway Seniors’ Program, Rockway Golf Course and Kitchener Granite Club tournaments as well as Domino Mondays gave her great joy. Treasured gatherings with caring friends Connie, Mary Lou, Helen, Millie, Lillie, Judy, Erma, Betty, Joanne, Aileen, Roberta, Jean, Nancy and Rose contributed to her longevity and well-being. Pastor Randy Banks’ kindness during every family crisis, visits and newsletters from Calvary’s parish nurse Gerti Emslie and the beautiful care from Sunnyside’s wonderful staff have been so appreciated. Edna’s exceptional success with decorating, flower-making, flower arranging, sports, baking, hosting, fashion, generous greeting cards outreach and ministry to others made her a truly amazing, inspiring role model.
She will be remembered by loving nieces Sylvia Stahle, Valerie Toth (Bob), Jean Uhrig (George), Nancy Rotozinski (Roto), Judy Mendicino (Vince), Dawn Haussler (Reiner), Marlene Widdoes (Bob), Helen Buller (Ed and Bill), Jean Behrendt (Ray), Janine Behrendt and nephews Wayne Stahle (Bertha), Brent DeMeuleneare (Tisha), Bruce Jonas (Loretta), Bryan Jonas (Nancy), Grant Jonas (Sue) and a myriad of grandchildren, great nieces and nephews.
