Yvonne Careen passed away at Chancellor Park Long Term Care Facility in St. John’s on Monday, December 20, 2021 at the age of 74 years.
Yvonne was predeceased by her husband Anthony, parents Elsie and Oswald, sister Ida (Ike), brothers Newman (Yvonne) and Barry (Fay) and brother-in-law Cliff. Left to mourn are her children Ruth-Ann (Robert), Patrick (Adrienne); grandchildren Daniel, Claire, Anthony and Leo; sisters Gwen, Iris (Dave) and Pauline (Bob) and brothers Gord (Mavis), Jim (Patsy) and Ellis. As well as many extended family members.
Yvonne was born and raised in Frederickton, NL and would often share fond memories of her time growing up there surrounded by family. As a young girl she contracted polio and would end up spending many months away from her family at the Sunshine Camp for Crippled Children in St. John’s. These were hard times and left her with a permanent disability which brought much adversity over her lifetime. She married Anthony Careen and made the move to Churchill Falls, Labrador where she had two children and made some lifelong friendships. After their time in Churchill Falls the family moved to Gander, NL where they stayed until Anthony’s health declined and they moved to St. John’s to be close to their daughter. Yvonne spent her last 12 years in Torbay, NL at North Pond Personal Care home. Finally, after a stint in the hospital, she moved to Chancellor Park where she spent the last week of her life in comfort surrounded by family. Thank you to the staff at North Pond and Chancellor Park for taking great care of her.
She loved to bake, knit and carry on. And she was always ready for a game of bingo.
Visitation will take place at Caul’s Funeral Home LeMarchant Road on Wednesday, December 22 from 1-2 pm followed immediately by a funeral service at 2 pm in Caul’s Chapel. Interment to follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Bauline Line. Donations in Yvonne’s memory can be made to the Ronald McDonald House, St. John’s.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of E Yvonne Careen 2021..
