It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of E. David Warren on May 23, 2021 just two weeks shy of his 90th birthday. A wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, Dad brought happiness to everyone he met with a positive outlook and can-do attitude, the word “can’t” didn’t exist in Dad’s vocabulary. Dad rarely left the house without a jacket and tie and he was the epitome of an English Gentleman with a gentle sense of humour. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Eileen, of sixty-six years, sons Bruce and Steven (Ardyce), and many grandchildren. He spent his summers at the family cottage, most of the time with Robert by his side doing whatever task they were tackling that day or out on the lake in his 1941 Duke boat. Eleven o’clock was ‘coffee time’ no matter where Dad was or what he was doing. Mom and Dad would sit for an hour or more and talk about anything and everything. Dad would make Mom laugh every, single day.
Born in East York on June 9, 1931, Dad attended R. H. McGregor public school, East York Collegiate Institute, and Radio College of Canada. Hired by Bell Canada in 1951 he worked in Toronto and Oakville as a Long Distance and Special Services Technician until his retirement in 1991. Dad always maintained that he was employed by Bell but he worked for his family, and family was always his top priority. A Past President of the Telephone Pioneers, he enjoyed staying connected with old friends and making new friends after his retirement. Dad spent many years as a Cub leader when the boys were young and later a hockey dad at the rink every Saturday morning.
Dad seemed to have a knack for getting involved and ended up in leadership roles in everything he did. Freemasonry became his passion and he enjoyed being involved in just about everything Masonic. He joined Oakville Lodge No. 400 in 1968, served as Worshipful Master in 1976 and as District Deputy Grand Master of Hamilton District A in 1981. He was a member, Past First Principal, and Past Grand Superintendent of Royal Arch Masons, Past Provincial Grand Prior and a Knight Commander of the Temple of the Sovereign Great Priory of Canada. A Past Grand Inspector General of the Royal and Select Masters of Ontario, and Past Grand Inspector General of the Royal Ark Mariners of Ontario. Past Grand Intendant General of the Grand Imperial Conclave of Canada, received the Order of the Purple Cross – Associate Regent, and was the Deputy Grand Governor, Ontario East, of the York Rite Sovereign College of North America. He was a Knight Grand Cross (One Quadrant) of the Convent General, Knights of the York Cross of Honour, and Illustrious Knight Priest, Past Grand Third Pillar of the Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests of the Grand College of Great Britain. In the Scottish Rite he was a member of Murton Lodge of Perfection, Hamilton Sovereign Chapter of Rose Croix, and Moore Sovereign Consistory serving as Commander-in-Chief in 1998-99. He was coroneted an Honorary Inspector-General, 33°, in 1995 and was received into the Royal Order of Scotland in 2004.
More than anything else, Dad loved his family and was guided by his faith. We will miss you dearly and we will keep you and all our happy memories close to our heart.
