Durell G Murray
1920-2021
Capt. Durell G. Murray, 101, of Riverview, passed away
peacefully at The Veterans Health Centre on June 22, 2021.
Born in Newcastle, NB he was the son of the late Lloyd and Hazel
(Grimmer) Murray.
He was a charter member of Coverdale Lodge #52 F. &
A.M., member of Luxor Temple A.A.ON.M.S., founding member of Riverview
Veterans & Armed Forces Association, Royal Legion #6,
Moncton. He was a member of Fidelity Chapter
#36-OES. He served in the Royal Canadian Military as staff
Intelligence Officer. He retired from Reserve Army in 1956
with the rank of Captain. He was an avid outdoorsman, who
enjoyed fishing on the Miramichi River and big game hunting in the
Western Provinces. Durell was retired from Durell Murray
Insurance Limited with over 30 years service. He was an
active supporter of St. Paul’s United Church in
Riverview.
Durell will be sadly missed by his son Robert of Moncton and
long time friend Deborah Carson of Riverview, as well as several
nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife,
Edith (Porter) and brother, Herbert as well as son John Durell and
daughter Janet Elizabeth.
A service to share memories and celebrate his life and his
wife Edith (who died on Jan. 8, 2014) will take place at
Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine
Road, Riverview (869-2007) on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 1:30 pm with
Rev. Steve Berube presiding. A Coverdale Lodge #52 F.
& A.M. service at 12:30 pm followed by a memorial service by
the Riverview Veterans and Armed Forces Association at 1:00 pm prior
to the service on Wednesday from the funeral home. His
interment will take place at the Fair Haven Cemetery. For
those wishing to attend the service, please contact the funeral home
