KOLLER, Dr. Lloyd Anthony
1929-2021
A wonderful man and beautiful soul, Lloyd passed away after a brief illness on the evening of September 8 in the embrace of his devoted wife, Vicki.
Lloyd grew up in Milk River, Alberta, where he was known as “Curly,” the first from that town to become a medical doctor. Lloyd fondly remembered his early life in southern Alberta. He graduated from the University of Alberta, and began in General Practice, followed by a long career as a Radiologist in Edmonton. Genuinely interested in people, with an open heart and generous attitude, Lloyd talked to everyone he met. A hunter and fisherman, gardener and environmentalist, Lloyd built a cabin at Baptiste Lake, where his children and grandchildren could explore the natural world and care for it as he did. In his garage, he fixed things to last. Lloyd took great pleasure in reading, and especially enjoyed badminton, skiing, golfing and skating. A spiritual man who said he “ate like a king,” Lloyd never missed offering grace before each meal in all his 91 years. He felt strongly that no one should go hungry, and put that principle into practice by working for the Food Bank at his church, St. John the Evangelist, for many years of his retirement.
Lloyd is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Vicki; and a loving, admiring legacy of four children, Katherine (Lorne Wensel) Koller, George (Hali Schwartz) Koller, Robert (Janine) Koller, and Dr. John (Cathy) Koller. Sixteen grandchildren will remember his wisdom and guidance: Hannah (David Nam) Wensel, Elfi Wensel, Monika (Adam Harrison) Wensel, Sophie Wensel, Vita Wensel, Rebekah (Yves Dempsey) Wensel, Matthew Koller, Yuri Koller; Dr. Gregory Koller, Andrew (Madison Sader) Koller, Christian (Laura) Koller, Brianna (RJ) Skinner, Jay (Adriana Davis) Koller, Maya Koller, Danica Koller and Jonah Koller. Two beautiful great grandchildren, Ethan, son of Matthew Koller, and Rheia Skinner, along with those yet to be born, will hear stories of Lloyd for years to come.
Lloyd was predeceased by his parents, Alma and George Koller; his sister Roween Kuhl and brother George Koller; and by an infant son, David.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist (9830-148 St., Edmonton) on Saturday, September 18 at 10 a.m. (masks required). Those wishing to pay their respects may do so in the 30 minutes prior.
In lieu of flowers, with our gratitude, donations in Lloyd’s name may be made to the Edmonton Food Bank.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Dr Lloyd Anthony Koller 2021..
