Douglas James Hanson
1974-2021
It is
with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Douglas James Hanson, of Moncton, on Thursday,
August 26, 2021, at the age of 46 following a brave
battle with cancer.
Born in
Woodstock, Doug was the son of James Hanson and Iris
Thompson. Deeply intelligent, he was greatly respected in his
career field of marketing and communications, holding the
position of Vice President, Sales and
Marketing at Prestige Homes.
As gifted with his hands as he
was sharp with his mind, Doug was a talented
photographer and enjoyed woodworking with his father. He
loved basketball and cheered for the Lakers, himself possessing a mean
hook shot.
Doug’s stoic
demeanor belied a dry wit, and he was as happy
laughing along to his favourite comedy shows – The Office,
SNL, and especially Seinfeld – as he was with his head
buried in a philosophy book. He loved to travel, always
returning with a funny story to tell and a deep
appreciation of the
new cultures he encountered.
Doug was a man of style. He loved
putting a smile on others’ faces with his ornate designer
jackets and spectacular shoes. He loved his cars and was very proud of
the Porsche that his hard work had earned him. He loved Pepsi
and New York-style pizza, which he learned to make
in the city itself. Doug’s masterful from-scratch pizzas
formed the basis of many a fun night with friends. He loved
to see his friends happy.
Doug’s character was that of a
great lake. On the surface, quiet and calm, but of immense
depth and complexity. Those who were lucky enough to call him a friend
knew that in him they had a caring confidante who would always listen
intently and advise with heart and with honesty. Kind,
gentle, and unerringly authentic, Doug gave of his time freely and
asked nothing in return. He was a loving partner, an
irreplaceable friend, and a source
of great pride for his parents.
Doug is predeceased by grandparents:
Harold and Leota Hanson, Ira and Alice
Hamilton; and stepmother Lynn Hanson. Along with his
parents, Doug will be sadly missed by
his partner Derrick German; stepfather Robert
Thompson; brothers: Kyle (Alicia McLaughlin) Hanson, Chris
(Fay) Hanson, Mark (Sandra) Hanson; nephews: William, Samuel,
Henry, Thomas; his niece Ashley; and his beloved cat
Pepper.
Doug, you will be missed more than words
can say.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation
has taken place. Arrangements are entrusted to Cobb’s
Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Rd.
Riverview (869-2007). Donations in Doug’s memory
may be made out to a charity of the donor’s choice. A
celebration of life will be held at a later date.
