LAUDER, Douglas Earle
March 20, 1946 – December 4 2021
Doug passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the age of 75.
He is lovingly remembered by his partner of 16 years, Betty Egan; children, Shawn (Lori) Lauder, Randy (Connie) Lauder and Chance ( Samantha) Hutchison; grandchildren, Rhys, Callie and Cullen; sister, Butch Potter; and sister-in-law, Gail Lauder. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Jack Lauder and Kay Becker; as well as his brother, George.
He was a true Western Horseman. From the early days of getting to ride his horse to school with his brother George, to living his Dream of racing Chuckwagon’s. Doug loved his horses, following in the family footsteps, Doug cutrode for many of the greats in the Chuckwagon world. he was an outrider from the 60’s to the 80’s, then moved up to the driver box. He drove wagon’s all over Western Canada and topped it off by racing at the Calgary Stampede like his grand father, Tom Lauder, did at the very first Stampede. Doug also loved going to the Rodeo, especially with his son Chance. He grew up with and travelled with a lot of the Rodeo world cowboys.
Doug was a team roper and a all round cowboy, he loved anything to do with a horses. He also played hockey and loved snowmobiling and skiing. Being in the water was a lot of fun too, from boating to water-skiing and swimming in the Ocean, he enjoyed being wet. Like wetting his whistle!! Doug loved a cold beer and being around family and friends.
He had many different jobs, from driving logging trucks to working in the oil patch. He had a good time working in the horse racing industry at Stampede Park doing everything from working the starting gate to Judging the races. He loved the horses and the people from around the world and around the track. Working in the Movie industry was another position that Doug had enjoyed. From getting in to hair and makeup to preforming in a scene, Doug loved the experience. His Big Break was doubling Richard Farnsworth in the movie The Grey Fox.
Doug loved his family, especially Betty, his true soulmate and his Boys, Shawn, Randy and Chance. Both the Lauder’s and Moore’s were Doug’s greatest supporters and his three grandchildren where the apple of his eyes.
Doug’s horse Pep was his last great ride, so as we say goodbye and watch the cowboy ride away we say “We love you Dad/ Doug! R.I.P. Grab a beer and Cheers!!!”
The family would like to thank Dr. Bill Ward and the entire staff at the Sundre Hospital for all of their kindness, compassion and caring, at this difficult time and also Jaymie with Disdsbury Home Care who also took extra special care of Doug.
A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at a later date.
