Douglas “Doug” Kinsley
Passed away peacefully at his beloved Mansfield home on Friday, February 26, 2021, at the age of 72. Predeceased by his father Alec and his mum Kathleen (nee Kearney). Born in Manchester, England, on January 19, 1949, Doug was the third of four children. His siblings, Gwyneth, Michael & Peter (Jane) Kinsley, will miss him very much.
Doug was a very loving and tender father. He served as a beautiful example of hard work, service to others, love and kindness. He taught us to be adventurous and unapologetically passionate. Doug was the lifeblood of our family. Like a river that flowed through us all, giving us life, nourishing our hearts and enlightening our souls. We were the rocks and trees, plants and stones around which his river flowed, bringing us abundance, upon the past, present and future. Doug’s river, untouched by time, will always flow.. eternally. He is greatly missed by Sarah (Aaron) Kinsley-Brooks, Jennifer (Grant) Horan, Laura and David Kinsley.
Doug was a very involved granddad; and could be counted on to be on the sidelines of any child’s hockey game, dance recital and school graduation. (often taking pictures) It was common to find Doug wearing a t-shirt or sipping tea from a mug that had a picture of any of his grandchildren. He is deeply missed by Andrew, Michelle (Colin), Sarah-Jane (Anthony), Cassandra (Joshua), James (Jennifer), Megan (Blair), Daniel, Thomas, Rebecca, Madeline, Loren and Rachel. He was also a Great Granddad to Ryan, Owen and Lucy.
He immigrated to Canada in 1969 at the age of 20 landing in Toronto and never looked back. Doug had a rewarding career, starting as a printing plate maker in England and working for the Toronto Star in various roles, eventually starting his own brokerage business. For the past five years, he was a valued and loved member of the Alliston Boston Pizza team.
Doug was a passionate man, and it was no more evident than in the extraordinary pictures he took of his family over the years or documenting the changing seasons of Mulmur. One could always find Doug with his nose in a book. It could be the most recent popular mechanics magazine or the Barak Obama memoir. His love of music left an indelible mark on his family; in an hour, we could listen to opera, The Beatles, Leonard Cohen and Johnny Cash.
We imagine that he is in all engaging conversations with the likes of Stephen Hawking and Socrates. If a man deserves a seat at the table with our Lord, it is Doug.
Rest easy, Dad, you did your work here!
