In loving memory of Douglas Clifton Hancock, who passed away at Maison McCullough Hospice, Sudbury on March 21, 2021 at the age of 83.
Loving husband of 39 years to Jeannette (predeceased) and father to Marty and Murray (Jennifer). Proudest Poppy “Papouse” to Taylor and Lauren. Son of the late Artemis and Blanche Hancock. Survived by his sister Shirley (Bruce), brother Russell (Cynthia) and predeceased by his siblings Gertrude, Edward, Wallace, Flora and Clyde. Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dear friend to John Moore and loving cousin to Lloyd Hancock.
Doug was born October 3, 1937 in Forteau, Labrador and left the Big Land that he loved at age 19 to join the army. He returned home to Labrador frequently and on one such visit he fell in love with Jeannette, married and started a family in Sudbury in 1973. He worked at INCO as a miner for 27 years and with the Sudbury Airport Security for the Commissionaires for 17 years during retirement. He was passionate about hockey, watching his sons and then his granddaughters. Doug could be found at arenas all over Ontario watching them play and cheering them on. He enjoyed the outdoors and a good ‘ol mug up. He loved and was loved by his family from far and wide, spending as much time visiting or catching up with a telephone call when he could. He was a beloved family man who left a positive impression on the people that he met. To many he was and always will be remembered as a best friend and now a guardian angel.
