Douglas “Buddy”‘s Obituary
WESTVILLE ROAD – Douglas George “Buddy” Mason, 81, Westville Road, formerly of Lower Barney’s River, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in The Ponds, he was a son of the late Henry George and Florence Ann (McInnis) Mason. In younger years he worked in Ontario until 1969 when he moved back home, building the Grey Goose and fishing with his father and uncle. He later purchased the Grey Goose II and fished unit retirement in the early 2000’s, a career he thoroughly enjoyed. Buddy enjoyed blue grass, camping, KFC and ice cream, especially grape nut and vanilla. In later years, he was always found in the company of his fur buddy, Abby. There is much that could be said about Buddy, however, his family will remember him as an “awesome angel” who possessed a wonderful dry sense of humor. As a man who “would give the shirt of his back, expecting nothing in return”. He is perhaps best described by a granddaughter as “the best man I ever knew”. Buddy leaves a rich legacy of love and devotion to a most grateful family.
Surviving are his wife, Dotie; children, Charles (Tanya), Angela, Tammy-Lee (Kris) and Evelyn (Freddy); grandchildren, Tera (Dan), Devon (Kendra), Dillon and Cayden “Rock Roader”; great-grandchildren, Baylen and Madden; sisters, Mary (William), Judy, Susan (Donald) and Anna; brothers, Winston (Betty) and Charles (Kathy); sister-in-law, Gloria many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Patsy; brothers, Gordon in infancy and John Henry; brother-in-law, Gerald.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Saturday, November 27th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
