Obituary of Doug Barkley
Entered into rest at Kingston General Hospital on Wednesday May 5, 2021. George Douglas Barkley of Brockville, age 84 years. Doug was born in South Mountain to Ernest and Grace Barkley (nee Baldwin) and moved to Brockville in the 1940s. Beloved husband of the late Ruby Barkley, loving father of Stephen Barkley (Ann) and Paul Barkley. Cherished grandfather of Dana, Ben, Joseph and Matthew. Doug is survived by his aunt Lilah Beach in Kemptville and cousins Mary and Betty Beach. Doug was a Chartered Accountant (Queen’s University) who spent most of his career as an executive for Burnbrae Farms in Lyn. He loved playing music (piano and banjo), golf, traveling, being active in Wall Street Church and living and boating on the St. Lawrence River with Ruby. He lived for the past few years at the Wedgewood retirement home.
A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl Street East Brockville on Sunday May 9th, 2021 from 12 noon – 2 p.m. A private family interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery. In memory of Doug, donations to the Wall Street United Church, the Kidney Foundation or the C.N.I.B. would be appreciated by the family. Due to the COVID restrictions, please call the Funeral Home at 613-342-2792 if you would like to attend the Celebration of Life as there is a limit to how many people can be in the building at a time.
