Doug Green Wednesday April 21st 2021

GREEN, Doug –
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Doug Green, who passed away far too young due to an aggressive terminal cancer. When he passed, he was surrounded by his immediate family, who will miss him forever. He left behind his wife and best friend of 40 years, Karen, and his two children, David and Danielle. Survived by his mother (Joan) who died a month later, his sister (Gail), his in-laws, six nieces and nephews, their partners and children. He was predeceased by his sister (Valerie) and father (Ric). In 1974 he joined his father in the family business, Ernest Green & Son Ltd., starting in Inventory Control, and moving up through several positions. He had a very strong work ethic, eventually becoming President and C.O.O., where he held these positions until he sold the business in 2015, retiring at the end of 2016.
If you had the pleasure of knowing Doug, you knew that he was a very kind, gentle, positive, honest and calm person. He had a great sense of humour with an easy smile, and a chuckle. He was a self-proclaimed “shy guy” but didn’t come across that way to others. He took joy in helping others, cared deeply about his family and his employees. He had a thirst for knowledge and loved reading about how to be a better manager and improve sales, the economy, technology, politics, watched the business channel and followed the stock market. Doug was a sharp dresser with a fondness for a great tie.
Doug loved to golf, which he got from his mother. Doug enjoyed playing golf, basketball, baseball, and followed the Raptors and Blue Jays. Doug had a lot of health challenges, but he didn’t let them hold him back, since he was a fighter, who seemed to always pull through no matter what the odds. He loved specific Starbucks products, pasta and occasionally enjoyed Bloody Caesar’s. On vacation, he enjoyed walking on the beach and reading by a pool in warm climates.
He was open to trying new things, took up curling for Karen, and learned how to downhill ski to go on family vacations. He liked sci-fi, comedy, action movies and TV shows. Doug enjoyed going to Fan Expo every year and his long walks with David. Danielle and Doug discussed business and the economy.
Our family extends special thanks and appreciation to his dedicated, loving and compassionate private caregivers, as well as his family doctor, his cardiologist, palliative doctors, massage therapist, and other family members who helped make his end-of-life journey more comfortable. Also, it is important to mention and thank all the wonderful nurses, caregivers, OT, and PT supplied through the LHIN.
We hope to have a celebration of life for him in person after COVID passes, when we can truly celebrate the wonderful person he was, who unfortunately was taken away much too early from this world.
