Doug Corbett died peacefully at the Perley-Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre, having recently celebrated his 99th birthday.
He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of over sixty years, Ruth (Chisholm). Doug was the son of the late Harold W. and Margaret (George) Corbett, and brother of †Lester (†Norma) and †Dorothy (†Jack McGregor). He is survived by his step-daughter Faith (Kendall Wallis), his daughter Maureen (†David Lowrey), and his son David (Laura). He was particularly close to his nephew Paul Moir, who cared for him with great devotion during his final months. He will be missed by his grandchildren Stuart Lowrey (Justine) and great-grandchildren Bryson and Paisley; by Andrew Lowrey, Matthew Corbett and Katie Corbett. He was a loving uncle to Les Corbett (Ginger), Peter Corbett (Colleen), †William Corbett and †Peggy Corbett (Richard Raynor); to niece and goddaughter Kathryn McGregor (Bruce McDonald); to Paul Moir (Denise) and Jamie-Lee Moir; and to Ruth’s many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by them and their children.
Doug was born, raised and educated in Ottawa. After serving with the RCAF in World War II, he attended Queen’s University, where he took his degree in electrical engineering. He enjoyed a long career with Bell Telephone, and after retirement did consulting work in Antigua and Peru. Doug was passionate about fishing and photography, golf and (in later life) oil painting. He loved to travel with Ruth to Europe or to the summer festivals in Stratford and Niagara, and reveled in a good party with friends from the Bell and members of his family. May he rest in peace, and rise in glory.
Donations to the Perley-Rideau Veterans Health Centre Foundation in Doug’s memory would be deeply appreciated by his family (perleyrideaufoundation.ca/) .
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Doug Corbett Wednesday January 20th 2021..
