Dorothy Mae Tupper (Thompson) October 5, 1931 – August 6, 2021 Dorothy embraced a life full of family, education, and adventure. She was born in Victoria, and moved to Vancouver, attending Point Grey Junior High and Magee Senior High Schools. She studied Chemistry at the University of British Columbia, but left to raise her four children, Elaine, Brent, Lisa, and Philip. Dorothy then enrolled at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, where she earned the Governor General’s Award in her field of Chemical and Metallurgic Technology. Most of her professional life was spent at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as a water quality analyst and expert witness at corporate trials in British Columbia and the Territories. As a result, Dorothy became an environmentalist, joining and supporting the Sierra Club and the Green Party. She loved to hike with the Naturalists, swim, and read. After retiring, she travelled with Elderhostel, trekked the Annapurna Circuit, climbed the Great Wall, and taught English in Thailand. During her retirement in Victoria, she was a volunteer driver and helped as a docent at St. Ann’s Academy during musical performances. Dorothy was a strong role model, and her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren will miss her intelligent and progressive spirit.
