Obituary
On Friday, February 26, Dorothy Jamison, our loving mother, passed away peacefully, just a week before her ninety-first birthday. Born on March 6, 1930 to Tom and Ethel Weir, Mom grew up and went to school at Leney, Saskatchewan. On June 28, 1950, she began a sixty-year marriage with Fred Jamison, and they farmed together first in the Feudal area, and later south of Kinley, near Perdue where they raised two daughters, Patricia and Julia, and a son, Tim.
Dorothy was an active partner on the farm, as well as a wonderful homemaker and gardener. She took great pride in her housekeeping and her good taste and sense of style were reflected in her flare for home decoration and a variety of crafts.
In her youth, she played softball with the Leney Atoms. She and Dad curled regularly with a number of rinks in Perdue. Her interest in sports continued in later life as an enthusiastic spectator of curling and a committed fan of the Blue Jays. She also loved chuck wagon races.
She was a reliable community volunteer, involved in the Feudal and Perdue United Churches, National Farmers Union and the Perdue Recreation Complex. She was a supportive parent for our activities in school, Catherwood 4-H Beef Club, sports activities, and music lessons.
She loved to attend concerts, plays, and festivals, and was especially fond of the Saskatoon Fiddle Orchestra. Mom and Dad enjoyed square dancing and continued to make friends through dancing after they moved to Saskatoon in 1992. Shortly after, she started a home-based matting and framing business, and framed shows for several local artists.
Mom enjoyed entertaining and hosting family gatherings. Throughout this past year of social distancing and lock-downs, she stayed in touch by phone with many of her life-long friends and special cousins, and with friends and neighbours from her condo building where she had been living since 2015. She was known for her humour, energy and generosity.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ethel Weir, son, Tim, husband Fred and brother, John Weir, as well as brothers-in-law, Robbie Robertson, Jim Cole, Jim Doyle, Martin Dick, and Doug Parkinson, and sisters-in-law, Audrey Dick, Ruby Parkinson, and Hertha Jamison. She is survived by her daughters, Julia, and Patricia and her spouse, David Ehmann, sisters, Marj Robertson and Bea Cole, brother, Bob Weir and wife Faye, sister-in-law, Joy Weir, and loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
In accordance with Covid -19 restrictions, a small family service will be held on Thursday, March 4 at 2:00 at the Perdue United Church. A larger gathering at a later date will be planned when safe to do so.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to the staff of the St. Paul’s Palliative Care Unit for their tender care and support. The family asks that, if you are so moved, donations go to the St. Paul’s Palliative Care Unit, Leney Cemetery or for memorial tree planting through Mom’s obituary page.
