Obituary of Dorothy Amy Cowan
Cowan (nee Harris), Dorothy Amy – Suddenly, peacefully, at her home in Brampton on Monday, April 12, 2021, in her 86th year. Predeceased by her dear husband Lorne (2009) and by her parents Harry and Violet (nee Brown). Dorothy grew up in Snelgrove, attended public school at S.S. #10 and graduated from Brampton High School.
Dorothy became a legal secretary and for the bulk of her career spent 37 years working with Russell Prouse. Over the years, Dorothy attended the Baptist Church in Snelgrove, Cheltenham United, Grace United and Norval United, and was especially active in the UCW at Grace United and Norval United.
Dorothy was a strong, practical woman who took great care of her mother and enjoyed a good life with Lorne. Dorothy’s sudden passing surprised us but her life and her spirit have touched us all so deeply. Dorothy will be missed. She will be remembered. May she rest in peace.
At Dorothy’s request, a formal service will not be held. Friends are invited to attend a brief graveside service at Dixon’s Union Cemetery, 12895 Kennedy Rd, Caledon on Tuesday, April 20th at 2:00 pm. Masking and social distancing is required. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Norval United Church.
