Obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother Doris on November 8th, 2021. She joins her husband who passed away a little of over a year ago, along with her 3 sisters and 2 brothers previously. Mom will be sorely missed by her three children and spouses, Roger and Judy, Frank and Gail, and Christine and Neill. Her larger family includes grandsons and granddaughters with spouses. Andrew (Mikki), Jonathan (Claudia), Christopher (Melissa), Amy (Scott), Matthew (Laura), Aunya, Nathan (Natasha), Kevin Schlueter, Kala, and Ivy (James). She was blessed with 14 great grandchildren. Family was her driving force in life, and we were constantly amazed by her love and strength. Even though her eyesight and hearing were failing at the end, Mom focused on communicating with everyone through tablet writing and facial expressions. The family knew automatically what each expression meant.
Doris met her husband Gerry following WW2 and together they emigrated to Canada in 1950 to build their new life together, in Oshawa first, and finally in Arnprior which they called home. For many years they would be snowbirds to Florida and invited family and friends to visit them. In addition to being the family quarterback at home, Mom worked as a nursing aid, owned and managed her own delicatessen shop, and worked in floral retail. She loved to talk to neighbours and made life-long friends on the street where the family lived.
Doris passed away at Garden Terrace nursing home in Ottawa, where she and Gerry received such excellent care for their remaining years. The care and compassion of the Care Team there was mentioned daily in the updates passed along to her son and daughter-in-law (Judy).
Mom passed into the arms of God, in her sleep thinking about her next family visit.
A memorial service will take place November 27th at St. Thomas Anglican church in Stittsville, followed by a small social at the church. Covid restrictions will be in place with limited attendance. The service will be live streamed for those who wish to attend and can be accessed at 12:30 p.m. to ready connection for 1 p.m. start:
