We, the family of Dorena Marie Serroul, regret to announce her passing on Sunday, March 28, 2021.
Born August 29, 1946, in Pictou, NS, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (MacIsaac) Hemmings.
Dorena loved working as an LPN. The patients of 4A at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital were very fortunate to be the recipients of her very caring and compassionate nature. “Paging Dr. Serroul” was a joke with her brother, Eddie during his visits to 4A. An avid Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays fan, Dorena never missed a televised game. She also enjoyed get-togethers for a game of cards with family.
Dorena is survived by her daughters, Deanna (Mark) MacDonald, Kingston, ON and Tracey Serroul (Jason), Englishtown; son, Daniel (Chantal), Fredericton, NB; the father of her children, Leo Serroul; grandchildren, Edward (Alicia), Sarah, Connor, Kaylie, Noah, Maeve and Angeline; sisters, Alice (Lew) Davis, Kingston, ON; brothers, Edward (Teresita), Whitney Pier, James (Charlotte) MacIsaac, Quispamsis, NB and Daniel (Anna), Whitney Pier; sister-in-law, Beverly Hemmings, Whitney Pier; many nieces and nephews; close friend, Jenny McCarthy; and her wonderful neighbor, Geraldine “Dubba” Gill, who was very kind to Dorena helping run errands and providing assistance when needed.
Besides her parents, Dorena was predeceased by her sister, Deborah Healey and brother, Michael “Mickey” Hemmings.
A private family interment will take place in Eastmount Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
Memorials, in memory of Dorena, may be made to the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
