Smith, Doreen Maude;
96 of Bible Hill, passed away peacefully on
Friday, June 25, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born
in Bible Hill, she was a daughter of the late Burton and Ida (Vey)
Gorrie. She was a life-long resident of Bible Hill, and the Bible Hill
Fire Brigade Ladies Auxiliary. Doreen and her late husband Elbert were
officially received into St. David’s United Church by
Baptism/Profession of Faith in October of 1952 and their history with
the church goes back more than 70 years as founding members. She was
also a Sunday School Teacher and Councillor of the CGIT. She was a
grocery clerk for Delaney’s, Creelman’s Red and
White, and Moore’s IGA for 27 years. Doreen and her late
husband Elbert of 75 years, made many trips with their camper down
south and different places in Canada, which they enjoyed very much.
She is survived by daughter Debra Vey Gullon, East Mountain; son,
Elbert Dana Smith, Bible Hill; brother, Rev. Robert (Dianne) Gorrie,
Naomi BC; granddaughter, Jaclyn (James) MacPherson, Bible Hill,
grandsons, Gregory (Lisa) Gullon, East Mountain, Dana Craig Smith
(Stephanie Wesley), BC; great-grandchildren, Alex Gullon, Seth
MacPherson, Hailey; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and
great-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Elbert Alonzo Smith;
brother, Carl; sisters, Jeanne, Bette; son-in-law, Stephen Gullon.
A graveside service and interment will be held 2 pm Tuesday,
July 6, 2021, at the Bible Hill Cemetery, 41 Warren Drive Bible Hill,
with April Hart officiating.
(Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a maximum of 75 people can
attend the graveside service; this number may increase if restrictions
are eased. Masks must be worn and physical distancing will
apply.)Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall~Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. No flowers by request. Donations
in Doreen’s memory may be made to St. David’s
