Cowell – Emma Lois Doreen (née Moore)
Peacefully in her home on the Goodstown Road: Monday, February 8, 2021 in her 88th year. Born to Robert “Willie” Moore and Agnes “Aggie” Moore [née McCullough] on a snowy October 30, 1933 at the family farm.
Doreen was the younger sister of Earl Moore (Doris) and older sister to Betty Pierunek (late Patrick) and [late] Everett Moore (Ruth). Educated at S.S. #6 Marlborough Public School, Richmond Continuation High School and was the first of her generation to attend post-secondary as a proud graduate of Willis Business College. She was a dedicated civil servant at Agriculture Canada for 35 years of employment.
Meeting the love of her life Roy Edgar Cowell at Friday Dance Night in Pierce’s Corners on July 20, 1951. They were happily married for 60 years after uniting themselves to each other on August 7, 1954 at St. John’s Anglican Church in Richmond. They moved into a two-room house on the Goodstown Road, expanding it room-by-room into the home in which they raised their loving family.
Travel was an integral part of Doreen’s life; journeying with family on camping trips across Canada and through the States. Exciting overseas journeys included: Antigua, Turks and Cacaos, St. Lucia, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, St. Thomas, Barbados, Ireland, Isle of Mann, England, Greece, Rhodes, Crete, Santorini, Alaska, Hawaii, and Mexico.
Doreen was a welcoming neighbour and loving aunt to countless friends, cousins, nieces and nephews over the years. Doreen was a loving sister-in-law to Reta Woods (Ken) and Betty Cowell; predeceased by Marion Moore, Edna Cowell, Norman Cowell, Mervyn Cowell (Jean), Ruby Newton (Ted), Howard Cowell (Doris), Cecil Cowell (Marg), Earl Cowell and Millie Fader (Ernie).
Doreen is survived by four children: Debbie Cowell-Burn (Dennis), Cindy Mazzoccoli (Tony), Bonnie Goodenough (Roger), and Brent Cowell. Adoring “Nana” of Joe Goodenough (Samantha), Julie Goodenough, Christina Mazzoccoli (Kevin), Brandon Cowell, Robert Burn, David Mazzoccoli (Julie), Amanda Burn, Caroline Burn, and Candice Burn. Proud Great-Grandmother of Melanie Goodenough and Callum Jaschinski. Forever in our heart.
Friends may attend a visitation at the Kars Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 1610 Roger Stevens Dr., Kars on Friday, February 12th from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Due to COVID maximum attendance restrictions, pre-registration for the service must be made. Please scroll below to R.S.V.P.
