Doreen Velma Anthony
26 September 1941 – 24 June 2021
It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Doreen Velma Anthony announce her passing in her 79th year at the Green Bay Health Centre on 24 June 2021.
Doreen was born on 26 September 1941 to Pearce and Maude Maye of Head’s Harbour, the third of four children. At the age of 15 , she moved to Pilley’s Island where she met and married the love of her life, Loderick Anthony, on 20 August 1958; together they had 7 children.
She is predeceased by her parents, Pearce and Maude, infant son Ewen, brother Ralph Maye, parents-in-law Pearce and Mae Anthony, brothers-in-law Roy Payne and Ernest Anthony, and sister-in-law Nellie Croucher.
Left with fond and loving memories: husband Lod, daughters Trudy, Yvonne [Maurice],and Della [Vaughn], sons Floyd [Susan], Todd [Rosalyn], and Andrew [Mahalia], 11grandchildren ~ Vanessa, Celeste, Jodi, June, Jane, Brock, Matthew, Lucas, Amber, Summer, and Savannah, and 10 great-grandchildren ~ Erin, Tanner, Gabe, Faith, Sebastian, River, Brooke, Abigail, Marshall, and Isabelle, sisters Ruby [Don] and Linda, sister-in-law Marie, brothers-in-law Melvin, Gerald [Clarrissia], sisters-in-law Gloria [Clarence] and Judy [Vaden], and a large circle of relatives and friends.
Doreen’s main vocation was a store clerk at Blackmore’s, the Pantry Shelf, and Anthony’s. She was a very diligent homemaker, and a loving wife-mother-grandmother-great grandmother. She absolutely loved to knit socks, slippers, dish-cloths, and hand-towels. A line full of washed clothes delighted her. Changing around house furniture was also a fascination! She derived great pleasure sending up smoke no matter the day or the temperature, and kept Lod flat-out cutting wood and hauling it with “The Dozen”!! Doreen was very well-known in the Pilley’s Island Area, and will be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Thank you to those who offered condolences, brought food, remembered the family in prayer, and assisted in anyway; may God richly bless you.
