In Loving Memory,
Donna McNamara (62) left us, June 28th peacefully at home in the company of her husband Drew and daughter Natalie with the loving support of her entire family and friends.
As per her request, there will be no service. Donations can be made to the Cancer Research Society in her honor to help others, something Donna was never shy to do.
On April 29th, Donna was admitted to the hospital with what she believed was a pulled muscle in her neck and a lung infection. She was diagnosed with blood clots and lung cancer, which had spread to her lymph nodes. A testament to her strength, doctors believed she had been living with this ailment for some time, a shock to us all.
Donna was not one for hospitals and was determined not to allow COVID to stop her from spending time with her loved ones and enjoying life to the very end. She busted out of the hospital 48 hours later in true Donna fashion convincing doctors that her knight in shining armor, Drew would learn how to give her blood thinner injections and take care of her, a difficult task he under took in stride.
Despite her determination to take every test possible no matter how much pain she was in, she was informed the cancer had moved to her bones and there was no option for treatment, Donna was a true fighter.
Despite requiring several more trips to the hospital for pain relief and trouble breathing in which doctors were reluctant to releaser her, Donna, determined and strong willed, she broke out every time and returned home, where she loved to be.
She was always so grateful to be at home surrounded by her family who worked tirelessly setting up and managing her oxygen, medication and hospital bed that was placed in her living room so she could enjoy the beauty of nature she and Drew had created together at their home.
Donna remained strong despite one memorable hospital trip where nurses pulled out her morphine pump by accident and had to YouTube instructions how to put it back in, unsuccessful albeit. Donna showed resilience and strength, determined to again return home despite not having pain medication functioning, knowing that her home care nurse Amanda would be there to rectify the problem. Huge thanks go out to Doctor Casey and Nurse Amanda in addition to the entire care team at the Champlain LHIN, they were instrumental in ensuring Donna was able to live out her remaining days in the comfort of her home with her loved ones.
Donna’s love for her grandchildren was one of a kind. She was born to be the world’s best grandma with her fun loving spirit that has become all too famous. Her grandchildren were her number one priority. She loved playing any game they desired, she would make potions, never hesitating to make a mess in the name of fun. Halloween and parties she would dress up as Mary Poppins, Princess Jasmine and even a penguin to get a smile from her grandkids. Her grandchildren have the fondest memories of playing mini golf, splashing in the pool in addition to the family’s annual tradition of attending the Richmond Fair. “What happens at Grandma’s never happened” was her motto and she lived by it.
Growing up with her daughter Natalie, she was definitely the fun mom. Everyone wanted to hang out at Donna’s house; she did things others didn’t, like always willing to go to the late Bingo so she could drive all the kids home after.
Donna touched everyone who knew her, she was so fun to be around, and was always the life of the party. She loved Caesars, Kensingtons and her meat and potatoes, even as the end neared, determined as ever she enjoyed it one more time side by side with her love Drew.
Her spirit will live on with all of us. She will be greatly missed. Donna will never be forgotten, as she wanted to share her world famous butter tart recipe with everyone to enjoy. (Please see the Photo & Video page.)
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Donna McNamara Monday June 28th 2021..
