Obituary
Dwanna Marie MacLean
Point Aconi
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we, the family of Dwanna Marie MacLean, age 67, announce her peaceful passing on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Northside General Hospital, with her loving partner and family at her side.
Born March 5, 1954, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Frances Eugenia (Payne) MacLean of Point Aconi.
Donna fought a long and courageous battle with cancer and with great strength and will, it never broke her spirit. She leaves behind her loving partner of 19 years, Darrell Eldridge. Donna and Darrell could always be found doing what they enjoyed most, which was swimming and camping out on the Mira. They shared many walks and wonderful memories down at Point Aconi beaches.
Donna had a great sense of humour, was a lovely seamstress, and enjoyed crafting and made many beautiful things over the years.
She was also known as “Nanny Francine” and “Grand Madonna” by the special bond she shared with her nieces, grand-niece and grand-nephew, whom she cared for over the years and fondly nicknamed; The Duck (Jamie Marie), Ellie Mae (Brooke), Nummychuck (Reid) her little buddy and best friend, and Genarose (Carla), her caregiver and loyal companion. She was well loved by all her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and many friends, and will be forever in all our hearts.
She is survived by her loving partner Darrell Eldridge, brothers and sisters; Brenda (Dane), Dorothy Boutilier, Neil (Roxanne), Valerie (Kevin), Norma (Bobby), Raymond (Sharon), Barbara (Kevin), Nancy (Dougie), Ronnie (William), Mary (Leah), Connie (Dean), and Teddy (Sharon), and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Donna was predeceased by her brother Frankie, Sandy and sisters in infancy Cora Grace and Mildred Louise.
Her family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Paul Hickey for all the years he cared for Donna as her family doctor. Special thanks also to Dr. Alexander Wawer and the Palliative Care Team, who showed compassionate care for Donna during the last several months of her time with us, and the nurses at Northside General Hospital, who provided exceptional care during her time with them. She enjoyed her banter with each and every one of them.
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A private committal service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donna’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Society or Palliative Care. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
