Donna Kay (Huestis) Enger passed away peacefully at Grey Nuns hospital on May 26th 2021 at the age of 83.
Donna is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Arnold, son, Timothy (Diane), daughter, Shannon (Jeff); grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jamison, Kai, and Josie. Donna was predeceased by sister, Marilyn and parents, Ivy and Eric Huestis.
Donna was noted for her athletic ability in all sports while attending Westglen Junior and Senior High Schools. She was one of only two high school athletes from Alberta invited to participate in the 1956 Canadian Olympic Team trials in Toronto as a high jumper. While attending the University of Alberta she played for the Pandas Intercollegiate basketball, volleyball and swim teams and was inducted to their Sports Wall of Fame in 1998. She began her professional career as a faculty member at the U of A and was responsible for the creation of the Panda’s Gymnastics team which went on to become the strongest program in the country. Later on as an educator in the Edmonton Public School Board she was the first ever Phys. Ed. Teacher at Old Scona Academic High School and was very innovative in the delivery of her courses in a school that didn’t even have a gymnasium.
Very active in her community she created the Aspen Gardens Gymnastics program in the 1970’s and spent her retirement years as a member of the Wild Rose Ramblers, a hiking group of environmentally conscious women.
A private Memorial Service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 19, 2021.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Donna Enger 2021..
