Donald’s Obituary
Medicraft CD, MWO (retired) Donald Franklin – 83 of Greenwood, passed away Monday 7 June 2021 at Soldier’s Memorial Hospital. Born 8th March 1938 in West Dalhousie to the late Elvin and Margaret (Ramsay) Medicraft, and it became evident at an early age that Don would become a great woodsman by nearly chopping down the family tree at the age of three. Don graduated from Bridgetown Regional High School and later entered the Canadian Armed Forces and was a member of the Royal Canadian Corp. of Signals. He served 2 tours overseas, The Congo (1960-61) and Cyprus (1969-70), finally retiring in Masset, B.C. after serving 35 years. Don loved to fish, hunt for the perfect 16 point buck, square dance and curl. He also enjoyed watching hockey on TV, listening to hockey on the radio and playing bridge, often times simultaneously. He was a member of the Ionic Lodge No.73, A.F. & A.M., Middleton and the Mayflower Chapter No. 2, Order of the Eastern Star. He was married to the love of his life Marjorie “Midge” (nee Batson) for 62 years. Through their years of shenanigans, they raised 3 children, “favourite son” Craig (Julie) Medicraft of Tupperville, “favourite daughter” Christine (George) Wojcik of Ottawa, and “other favourite daughter” Anne (the late Robert) Lightbourn of Nictaux West. He is survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; his brothers Arthur “Butch” Medicraft, and Tom Medicraft and sisters Joyce Mack, Janet Fredricks and Debbie White along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends and his faithful dog Penny. Don was predeceased by his sisters Francis Oikle, Barb Omond and brother David Medicraft. Donations can be made in Don’s memory to Wounded Warriors or Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. Many thanks to Sarah, Barb, Sheena and Tammy his special care givers. In keeping with Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Due to pandemic restrictions, a memorial/masonic service will be held at a later date when gathering limits increase. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
