O’Neill, Don – Entered into rest at the Ross Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. Don in his 92nd year, was the beloved husband of the late Nel O’Neill (née Jessome). Much loved father of Ed (Bonnie), Sherri Lucas (Joe), Dan (Sandra), and Randy (Susan). A loving grandfather of Angeline Thiboutot (Jo), Aaron (Elisha), Hayden (Veronica), the late Joshua (1985), the late Justin Lucas (2007), Adam Lucas (Adele), Devon (Megan), Mark (Julie), Richard (Charlotte), Brian (Ashley), Katelyn Martino (Ron), and Rebecca Suggitt (Justin). Missing grandpa will be his 19 great-grandchildren. Uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews from coast to coast. Don was predeceased by daughter-in-law Gwen.
Don was the 4th of 11 children of Stanley & Mary O’Neill of Omemee and is survived by siblings Patrick (Fran) of Edmonton, AB, Rose Marie of Dunsford and Albert (Maureen) of Peterborough and sisters-in-law’s Evelyn of Langley, B.C. and Rose of Lindsay. In his mid teens, Don travelled west, working on thrashing crews and ranches and completed an electrical apprenticeship. He eventually owned a company that wired many of the farms as electricity spread north of Edmonton. In 1956 he returned to Omemee, purchasing a farm and continuing to work as an electrician. The family lived in Peterborough from 1970-1977 but returned to Omemee where he pursued his love of farming. His community activities included Emily township council, OPP Auxiliary, Beef Producers & Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered for his work ethic and his love of his grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at the Stoddart Funeral Home, 24 Mill Street, Lindsay on Monday, November 15th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Downeyville on Tuesday, November 16th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Luke’s Cemetery.
