BUCKLEY, Donald (Don)
Passed away away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, on Friday, May 7, 2021 in his 97th year. Don is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Corinne (Martin), his children, Donna (the late Ross), Dale (Yvonne), Scott (Maureen) and Michel, his grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lauren), Laura, Shannon (William) and Clare (Stephen), his great-grandchildren, Carson and Devon, his sister-in-law, Deenie Martin. Don is predceased by his parents, Alice Maud (Collins) Buckley and Thomas Henry Buckley Jr.. Don was a good-natured, gentle man who cared for his family above all else. He met Corinne, his wife of seventy-two years, at a YMCA dance in 1946 and they have been together ever since. For over thirty years, he captained a fundraising team for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and was honoured by the City of Peterborough for his volunteerism. He also worked to raise money for the Heart Catheter Lab at PRHC. He purchased and sold vintage sewing machines and collected eight track tapes. He also spent many hours tending his beautiful rose garden. Don spent many years travelling with his wife Corinne. They enjoyed many trips to Hawaii and the Caribbean. As a young man, Don played soccer and rugby. He was a hockey Dad and he was a lifelong fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Don could always be called upon to play euchre. He enjoyed watching Laurel and Hardy movies and listening to Lawrence Welk, James Last and the Mills Brothers. The family extends much gratitude to Dr. Cindy Hobbs of the GAIN clinic who was there for him. Also warm thanks to Dr. Richard Ahee who was Don’s family physician for thirty years. Thanks are extended to Bonnie. We are much appreciative of the dedicated people who have given care and friendship to Don at home – Jo, Ken, Marta, William, Kathryn and Nathan. Also, thanks to the neighbours, the Hills, Vanderveen’s, Purves’, Fongs and Abrahams and to Donrey McIntosh who, over the years, never missed recognizing Don’s birthday or anniversary. Don was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. It is comforting to know he is now at peace.
